It's Autumn...

'Last time' Graffiti*

It's Autumn, I'll have to get my scarf out!

*Sadly no longer available as the new cafe owners painted over it - heathens! I'm glad I photographed it before it went.

You Dark Horse You!

Dark Horse played The Bristol Harbour Festival yesterday. Caught them sound-checking just prior to going on at 13:30. Brilliant set once again including a Queen cover in honour of the musical that will be playing at The Hippodrome. The reticent crowd were loving it by the end, finding favour with a young audience and the guy with corkscrew hair was mad for it (I guess I'm not exactly the demographic they're aiming for!). They gave away T-shirts which is always a crowd-pleaser and ended with their signature back flip

What a band!

New Blogs Please!

Two new blogs...

The Armchair Crease - There in spirit, if not at every match or on the pitch. The Armchair Crease sets out to provide a humorous look at County and International cricket from a Yorkshireman marooned in Wiltshire's perspective. It follows the fortunes of England and Yorkshire in 2009 from the comfort of the armchair.

A Glastonbury Tale 2009 - Will the road to Glastonbury 2009 be paved with 'mud' intentions or will the sun shine once again on this green and pleasant land?

I was on television!

I was on television - last night! I fortuitously walked into the living room, turned the TV channel over randomly and there was I, at work, on television!

There was a program on the BBC about a man with a suspected heart attack and required primary angioplasty. I was the nurse who took the patient down to the Cath Labs and I appeared in the footage shown. The film was made last week and I had completely forgotten about it. The patient made a full recovery (few!). The bad news is that on the website there is edited footage but it is precisely that, I have been edited out of the footage! I assure you, I was there. My wife saw me and she wouldn't lie.

Anyway, signed photos are available from my agent darlings. See you in Rep.

Dr Who - what's in a name?

Dr Who has been pre-occupying my time at the beginning of this year

  • I watched several episodes of David Tennant's Doctor at Christmas at a Christmas get together (Oh, it saved me from the 'games' which were nigh on compulsory!)
  • Horror of Fang Rock - Tom Baker
  • Black Orchid - Peter Davidson
  • Mark of the Rani - Colin Baker

Now I am a big fan and my association goes back to the original runs of classic Dr Who (yes, behind the settee) but I'm not so sure about the term Whovian! (Whovian is the currently accepted name for Dr Who fans). It makes me sound like some kind of American investigative organisation fan so I got to thinking, what are the alternatives?

  • A Whover - no, too domestic-sounding
  • A Whoman - I like this one, play on words, Whoman = human, geddit? It turns out a bit restrictive, excludes females (although the spelling looks a bit like woman)
  • A Whofan - no, reminds me of hooves, animals...
  • A Whotee - Who + devotee, sounds like a owl
  • A Whooter - naah, a nose or a horn, or goodness knows whatever
  • A Whooligan? Promising...

Well, maybe Whovian is right after all.
